LITERATURE

The program of Literature is designed to give you a first-rate academic education, with a main emphasis on Hispanic literature (Spanish, Latin American and Mexican) and a panoramic knowledge of Western literature. One of our main objectives is to provide you with comprehensive, rigorous and critical knowledge, focused mainly on studying language as it relates to literary studies.  At the same time, and in conjunction with interdisciplinary studies, you will develop your ability to understand and put into context literary works and practices.

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE OBJECTIVES

As a professional in Literature, you will have various study and literary research strategies, without neglecting trends originated in other languages, emphasizing theoretical reflection, essential for your integral formation.  Additionally, you will use such strategies to analyze different texts, especially in Western and Hispanic literature (Spanish, Latin American and Mexican).

 

Specific objective

Besides expanding your abilities at enrolment, we at the UDLAP propose to:

  • Give you a comprehensive and critical vision of Spanish language literature.

  • Develop your abilities to study literature in various contexts, trends and currents.

  • Foster your skills in the use of theoretical, methodological and practical instruments to research literature.

  • Sharpen your abilities for text analysis, commentary and criticism.

  • Provide you with an education as an expert in literature, approached with an interdisciplinary perspective.

GRADUATE PROFILE

At the end of your studies, having acquired new knowledge and expanded your abilities, you will have:

  • Specific mastery of Hispanic literature (Spanish, Latin American and Mexican).

  • Broad knowledge of Western literature and the main theories in the field of social sciences and humanities.

  • Ability to analyze literary texts and their different models.

  • Proper handling of formats, strategies and rhetorical conventions inherent to academic writing within a literary context.

  • Ease to delve in depth in other forms of artistic expression (music, film, plastic arts, etc.) so you may better understand cultural phenomena.

  • Good performance in the areas of criticism and cultural promotion, editorial work and any activity that requires excellent command of the language.
