Exchange of Immigration Document

Before you begin the process to obtain the above document, you must consider the following information:

If the length of your stay in Mexico will be greater than 180 days, you must obtain a temporary student resident visa at the Mexican Embassy or Consulate.

This visa cannot be obtained in Mexico.

Upon arriving in Mexico, you must show your visa to immigration personnel and you will be given a Multiple Immigration Form (Forma Migratoria Múltiple – FMM), which you must fill out with your personal information.
Immigration personnel will then ask for the following:


  • Temporary student resident Visa

  • Multiple Immigration Form (Forma Migratoria Múltiple - FMM)

  • Passport

All documents will be stamped with the entry date, and you will be given 30 natural days to exchange the document received abroad for a Temporary Student Resident Card. This process is called “exchange of immigration document” (expedición de documento migratorio por canje).

Definition

This service applies to foreign students who wish to study a complete licenciatura, master, or doctorate program at UDLAP.

This process is for foreign students who want to study in Mexico for an extended time. Once the process is finished, they will receive a temporary student resident card.

Requirements
  • Passport

  • Visa as a temporary student resident.

  • Original Multiple Immigration Form (forma migratoria múltiple - FMM)

  • Three small photographs (2.5x3 cm size) with white background, two looking forward, and one turning right, with the brow and ears uncovered, without earrings or glasses.  Polaroids are not accepted.

  • Pay the current cost for immigration service at the Unicaja.

Delivery time

20 working days.

Document Delivery

All processes are personal and must be carried out 15 days after the student’s arrival in Mexico.
The documentation will only be received when it is complete and within the time frame specified.

Issue of immigration document by renovation

Definition

This process applies to foreign students who want to extend their stay in Mexico to continue their studies at UDLAP.

The objective of this process is to obtain an extension of a temporary student resident card for a foreign student

Requirements
  • Passport

  • Temporary Student Resident Card to be renewed

  • Three small photographs (2.5x3 cm. size), two looking forward, and one turning right, with the brow and ears uncovered, without earrings or glasses.  Polaroids are not accepted.

Delivery time

20 working days.

Document Delivery

All processes must be carried out 30 days before the immigration document expires.
The documentation will only be received when it is complete and within the time frame specified.

Notification of marital status, name, nationality or address change

Definition

Foreign students who are in Mexico as temporary student residents must inform the National Immigration Institute of changes of marital status, name, nationality or address.

Requirements
  • Passport

  • Temporary student resident card

  • In case of marital status change, present marriage license, divorce judgment with date or death certificate of spouse.

  • In case of nationality change, present passport of new nationality, nationality certificate or naturalization letter.

  • In case of name change, present passport or identity document with the new name, issued by the corresponding authority in his/her country to certify his/her name change.

Delivery time

10 working days.

Document Delivery

The process is personal and must be carried out 45 days after the change took place.

The documentation will only be received when it is complete and within the time frame specified.

  • In case the process is not carried out in the specified time frame, the National Immigration Institute could fine the student.

  • This process is done at the student’s request.

Entry and Exit Permit

Definition

This process applies to foreign students who wish to exit Mexico and come back while they have another pending process.

Requirements
  • Proof of payment or process before the National Immigration Institute.

  • One small photograph (2.5 x 3 cm size) facing forward, white background, with the brow and ears uncovered, without earrings or glasses.

Delivery time

3 working days.

Document Delivery

The process is personal and must be carried out 3 days before the student wishes to travel outside of Mexico.

The documentation will only be received when it is complete and within the time frame specified.

  • In case this process is not carried out and the student exits the country without the corresponding permit, the pending process may be denied.

  • This process is done at the student’s request.

Replacement of Immigration Document

Definition

This process applies when a foreign student’s resident card, visitor permit or FMM is stolen, lost, or has been partially or totally damaged.

Requirements
  • Passport

  • Three small photographs (2.5x3 cm), two looking forward, and one turning right, with the brow and ears uncovered, without earrings or glasses.  Polaroids are not accepted.

  • In case that the replacement is due to partial or total destruction, the student must include the FMM, visitor card, resident card or temporary document, whichever the case may be.

  • In case the document has been stolen or lost, the student must have the corresponding report drawn before the Public Ministry authorities.

Delivery time

15 working days.

The documentation will only be received when it is complete and within the time frame specified.
