The program of Licenciatura in Chemical Engineering at Fundacion Universidad de las Americas Puebla (UDLAP) forms professionals who are highly proficient in the development of chemical processes and products with integral and global perspectives. The program is committed to the formation of effective communicators, team members and independent thinkers as well as with the formation of individuals who recognize universal values and the importance of life-long learning.

Program Educational Objectives

The objectives for the program of Licenciatura in Chemical Engineering focus primarily on practicing engineers who are capable of working successfully not only in Mexico, but within a global context, in areas that include the development, operation and control of processes for products of the chemical and petrochemical industries. The program is based on the fundamental and applied knowledge of Engineering, with focus on thermodynamics, transport phenomena, unit operations, and kinetics and reactors. During the initial years of their careers, UDLAP’s chemical engineering graduates will:

PEO # 1: Have successful careers in Chemical Engineering by demonstrating technical proficiency in the theoretical and practical knowledge of the discipline.

PEO # 2: Be excellent Chemical Engineers and become effective communicators, team members, decision makers and leaders.

PEO # 3: Understand the global impact of the profession and recognize the social responsibility that Chemical Engineers have.

PEO # 4: Recognize the relevance of life-long learning and commit to professional development.

Student outcomes

The Student Outcomes for the Chemical Engineering Program at Fundacion Universidad de las Americas Puebla are the following:

  1. an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering
  2. an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
  3. an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability

  5. an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
  6. an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility

As a graduate from the Bachelor of Chemical Engineering you will be able to design, operate, and improve processes to transform materials into chemical products, solving problems in industrial operations, and creating top quality products. You will use theories and methodologies to balance mass and energy, unit operations of fluid flows and transfer of mass and energy, chemical reactors, and process engineering. Thus, you will synthetize organic and inorganic chemical products, petroleum pharmaceuticals, and petrochemicals needed by industry and society.

Once you have finished your study program, you will have a bachelor´s degree in addition to a licenciatura degree. Therefore, your studies will be recognized worldwide.

In addition to enhancing your entry skills, at the Bachelor of Chemical Engineering we propose to:

  • Teach you systems, components, and processes to create new chemical products.
  • Train you to identify, formulate, and solve different problems of chemical engineering.
  • Prepare you to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global and social context.
  • Make you proficient in handling concepts of chemistry, physics, math, and science to formulate and solve chemical engineering problems.
  • Teach you to apply the fundamental laws of balance of mass, balance of energy, thermodynamics, kinetics, catalysis, fluid flow, heat transfer, and mass transfer.
  • Teach you the theoretical elements to master unit operations, as well as to design chemical reactors.
  • Interested in experimentation and analysis.
  • Knows concepts of chemistry, physics, math, and science in general.
  • Willing to work for the greater good and to be successful.
  • Determined to achieve goals through learning.
  • Able to design processes to obtain chemical products by using math, physics, chemistry, thermodynamics, balance of mass, balance of energy, and transfer of mass, heat, and momentum to formulate and solve chemical engineering problems.
  • Dominates the design of solutions related to the control and operation of different chemical processes through the analysis of control variables, and is aware of their impact on the creation of engineering products according to the market’s demands.
  • Knowledge of concepts and effects of operation conditions of different unit operations.
  • Able to evaluate operation restrictions. identifying the safety and quality conditions to design production equipment and processes.
  • Able to carry out mass and energy balances for different systems and sub-systems, applying the principles of conservation of mass and energy to determine the different units that make up a chemical process.
  • Able to gauge chemical process equipment, using experimental techniques to obtain information at a lab or prototype plant.
